GBPEC MEET 2010, BANGALORE

Finally, a month long hard work of Mr Pawan Bhandari (2002), Mr. Sumit Negi (2003), Mr. Ashish Thapaliyal (2005), Mr. Tanuj Joshi (2005) and Mr. Shailesh Thapliyal (2007) came to an end. A moment of truth was coming near for them. Their heart beat was on rise like any A. R. Rahman's fast number. It was a test for them and it was now just a matter of time when it was about to be judged by the audience of GBPEC MEET BLR-3.0. Welcome to the party folks!!!!

The needles of the clock was making an angle of 30 degree and here comes their first judge as an audience Mr. Pankaj Saini. As always in past, he was right on time. But since then it was IST which ruled the visitors. But as they said, better late than never. It was around 12 noon, when lawn was packed with GBPECians. Folks we used to call "Hamare Purvaj" (Our Ancestor) from 1996 batch till the young blood of 2009 batch were present together there. With around 65 odd people, the energy was so great there that even the trees surrounding us flowing in the arms of blowing air as if they were enjoying the party too and dying to come out of there roots to join us. With this the magic started, a magic of GBPEC.

The event started with the introduction of batches. People from same batch came together and gave their introduction. One by one everyone came on the stage and happily got themselves ragged, as we used to do in first couple of months (not so happily in those days) of our GBPEC journey. Remember the days of "Gentle and Polite Introduction". But the best introduction was by Mr. Rajendra Sharma (2002), Raju Da as we call him with love. The task of introducing 2002 batch was outsourced to him and he did full judgment to it by saying it in Hindi but with Garhwali tone. "Bal pauri jaan".

People were then divided into four groups Cats, Dogs, Donkeys and Goats to give break to the intra-batch communication and to facilitate the communication between alumni from various batches. All the group members were supposed to sit together without saying a word. They were only allowed to make voice of the animal of their respective groups. And as we expected dogs were the winner. They got together very fast and made a high pitch howl together which could be heard from miles away for sure.

When the sun was at peak, the dew on the grass was evaporating in the air, cloud were playing hide and seek with us in the open lawn, pretty girls were fighting hard to save their complexion, and everybody was sweating in the lawn here came Mr. Prashant Rauthan (2007) like a breezing air with his magical kiss with the flute. He came with the first performance.

But more magic was yet to come as if Sachin Tendulkar is yet to come in the match, where Sehwag has already hit century and Gambhir was playing like rock solid. The magic reached to it's peak with the performances by Mr. Sumit Negi (2003), Mr. Rajendra Sharma (2002), Mr. Manish Bajpai (2000) came with solo and Amit Joshi (2004) and his wife Deepa Joshi (2006) with romantic duet. Even Mr. Manish Khare (1996) could not resist his excitement and came with a song in his great voice. We all were roaming in the golden days of GOONJs and CONVOs, where we had loads of fun. Today, it felt just an extension of real GBPECmagic which we were habitual of.

With the time, as aroma of food started filling in the air, it increased our appetite and of’ course our excitement. Here it started - Dumb Shall Art. Randomly people from every group were asked to come, select the movie name and perform. Every group was trying hard to guess the movie names. Sometime people failed (read - gave opportunity to other groups to get success) to guess but there were success stories too. But finally the group which got eureka moment was DOGs.

Food was the only destiny after that. Paneer, chicken, mutton and many other mouth-watering dishes were ready as if they were waiting to be appreciated by their eaters. And it happened. The end of lunch came with ras malai, and pastries.

Last but very important event was the quiz about our loving GBPEC. There were some easy questions like the direction in which Chandrabadni temple is from GBPEC, and the nearest railway station from GBPEC. Some tough questions like, a name of mess worker who can convert an iron into gold. As we all know that beauty is an integral part of brains. So to serve the same, there was a question that in which year Alaknanda girls hostel got its first set of female-GBPECians. A discussion is incomplete without the talk of faculty, so was here. Which faculty member resembles a famous hollywood actor Charlie Chaplin. People enjoyed the chocolates as an award for every question they answered.

Now, it was time to face the truth of the nature. Every good thing has to come to an end. Sad isn't, but true. But it also provides an opportunity to pass on the baton to the next generation, and to be better next time. People got a memento written with golden words "GBPEC-2010" and returned back with hearts filled with the memories of the great event and with the hope of coming back next time. I wish it will not take much time to meet again. Amen!!!!

  3. it was really nice event.Frankly speeking, i didn't expect this much from organisers. It was a very well planned and carefully organized meet.
eveything was fine except the absence of freshers (I mean 2009 batch and the job seekers).they could have used this opportunity to intract with their seniors which I m sure would have helped them.
