GBPEC Excellence Awards
I try to analyze our earlier failure and found that there were two major reason of the same:
1. Wrong Implementation: The reason to give the scholarship to students is to encourage them for good work. It is like telling 12-13 year old kid the benefit of higher studies. Kid will surely not understand that.
2. Lack of interest from faculty/college: I believe the scenario would be totally if we could have got better support from college or faculty members.
I still believe that the idea we started with was noble but the way we carried it could have been better. So, I've new and better (I hope) idea this time. Main point of the GBPEC Excellence Awards could be:
1. This award will be given to the Faculty Member every year who had shown excellence in the current year. Excellence could be but not limited to paper publications, patents, research, and of'course the classroom performance. The purpose if this award will be to increase the competition between faculty members so that in longer time the quality will be increased. This will also have inclusion of faculty members, which is very important to run this kind of program.
2. This award will be given to Alumni member every year who had shown extra-ordinary work such as opening a start-up, technical publications, patents etc. This is due to very obvious reason of increasing the GBPEC brand value in longer term.
3. The third category could be of students who has shown excellence including sports and academic during that year.
Economically I believe this program will be viable if we have more than 50 alumni out of 1500 (I believe till now 1500 students have been passed from GBPEC) for contribution, which I think will not be very hard. Those 50 alumni need to contribute 100 Rs a month. With which we can have 60000 Rs in total. To start with we can give 25000 Rs in Faculty and Alumni category and 10000 Rs in student category.
I am really not sure whether I made sense here or not. So, please let me know your views and thoughts on this if you have any. Please don't stop yourself by commenting even if you have some bad words about this idea. And definitely, I am looking for support so those who are in for idea please let me know also.

Welcome Freshers!!!!!!! 2010
Firstly, I would like to welcome First year students who have recently joined our evergrowing Family. The reason I am writing this blog, just to share my experience and thought.
By welcoming you i am becoming nostalgic about the feelings i had when i first left my home for GBPEC. I am 2003 Batch mechanical Engineering Graduate.Anyways i dumped my luggage on Najibabad station and moving in our Bus towards Pauri, I had started imagining and sketching everything in my mind. I had lots of expectations and many came to be true and many went flying away from windows as soon as i reached college.
Almost everyone who is joining our esteemed college would have seen the growth and capability of the students moving to almost all parts of world and doing good in their respective careers. I have been closely watching the T&P movemnets on its website and would congratulate the team for moving block by block towards betterment.
Almost everyone in first year would have seen a cult movie '3 Idiots" which had highly inspiring dialogues like "कामयाबी के पीछे मत भागो , काबिलियत के पीछे भागो ". I will totallyagree with the thought but i must advise our guys that all fingers on a hand is not equal. The movie was based on the central character Rancho who was extremely brilliant and genius. But there are guys like me who require lots of hardwork to get their share of success. So always, see you potential and work towards the excellence.
Now i will just address the guys who have joined Mechanical engineering. Guys, you must be searching the name of the companies who have recruited Mechanical graduates. I would say dont be disappointed.we were the third batch into this college. the college didnt have any name whatsoever in this field before. But now after 7 years from then the guys who graduated in Mechanical engineering from GBPEC have moved on the ladder and are on the respectable position. To name a few would be insult to other guys who will be missed as the list is very long. You are lucky to join this college when it has evolved so much in years on terms of faculty, infrastructure and culture. So use this opportunity and let yourself loose because Sky is the Limit.
Whatever you do to your life and career is based on the choice you make and how well you implement it. And lot of guidance is required to choose a correct path at the correct time.
I remember the counselling days, I had three choices Electronics, Mechanical, Electrical and i opted for Mechanical. Everyone said, you missed the opporunity which could have led you to very high profile jobs. But i was pretty strong in my minds and having inclination towards automotive, i thought this will lead me to my dream jobs.I had passion towards Cars and i chose Mechanical engineering.I have worked in number of positions from Car Salesman of SKoda Lucknow to the Development engineer on Jaguar Landrover UK.I am not boasting my achievements but trying to inspire those juniors who are in doubt about their future as a graduate from the college which doesnt have name in top 100 list of colleges in India. There are lot of guys who are doing very good in their field. I would appeal to them that they should join www.gbpec.in in alumin list. This will atleast inspire our new joinees to interact and alsoget some guidance about approach on life after College.
Happy College Days....

Site for College Projects
1. What project I should take? There was not much expertise/guidance available.
2. Will this project give me good exposure?
3. Will I be able to complete (create working model) this project?
4. What if this project is very common one?
5. Is there any place where I can showcase my work?
There is a very nice site i.e. techpedia.in available now which can help/guide you regarding this. Click Here and check it out yourself. Explore it and get benefited.

Must read for Engineering students
I am writing this post for all engineering students especially for my junior friends from GBPEC Pauri Garhwal who are going to pass out this year i.e. 2010. Many of you would have got job offer through campus placement in 1 or more companies (Although in most campuses, students are not allowed to sit in other companies after getting one job but in one college that I knew, girls and some special students are allowed to sit, now please don't ask the name of the college and the eligibility criteria to become special students!!!!!).
For those students having a job offer:
First of all congrats for getting a job offer, and I am sure most of you would have got the offer from India's most reputed companies, rite!!!. So, now most of you will be in ur dreamland, already got a job in a reputed company, and enjoying rest college days without trying for anything else, even for some students its like a dream come true!!!!! if ur answer is yes, then i would say either
-you have got an job offer from Google, Oracle, etc
-u have become an entrepreneur,
-u have achieved something which i can't even think of, or
-u think its the best you can get with your full potential
If none of the above conditions are true for you, then you are in a wrong track, i would just say 2 words for you, "WAKE UP"
For those students unhappy with rejection or looking for job
Forget the past, and be prepared for the future, don't wait for the opportunities to come your way, just make them. One important thing, company never selects such candidates who are better than their requirements, as these candidates can easily get better offers and can leave them anytime. If you are not in any IIT or some other well reputed college, then I would say better try off-campus (but try to get atleast one job on-campus for backup purpose if u want), there are many good companies which I am sure you won't have even heard of. I have also gone through this phase in my life that is why I have written this post. Thanks to my seniors especially Shitiz Raikwar and Abhiraj Mehrotra for their guidance that helped me to "WAKE UP".
Hope my post will "WAKE UP" the sleeping ones.

GBPEC MEET 2010, BANGALORE

Finally, a month long hard work of Mr Pawan Bhandari (2002), Mr. Sumit Negi (2003), Mr. Ashish Thapaliyal (2005), Mr. Tanuj Joshi (2005) and Mr. Shailesh Thapliyal (2007) came to an end. A moment of truth was coming near for them. Their heart beat was on rise like any A. R. Rahman's fast number. It was a test for them and it was now just a matter of time when it was about to be judged by the audience of GBPEC MEET BLR-3.0. Welcome to the party folks!!!!
The needles of the clock was making an angle of 30 degree and here comes their first judge as an audience Mr. Pankaj Saini. As always in past, he was right on time. But since then it was IST which ruled the visitors. But as they said, better late than never. It was around 12 noon, when lawn was packed with GBPECians. Folks we used to call "Hamare Purvaj" (Our Ancestor) from 1996 batch till the young blood of 2009 batch were present together there. With around 65 odd people, the energy was so great there that even the trees surrounding us flowing in the arms of blowing air as if they were enjoying the party too and dying to come out of there roots to join us. With this the magic started, a magic of GBPEC.
The event started with the introduction of batches. People from same batch came together and gave their introduction. One by one everyone came on the stage and happily got themselves ragged, as we used to do in first couple of months (not so happily in those days) of our GBPEC journey. Remember the days of "Gentle and Polite Introduction". But the best introduction was by Mr. Rajendra Sharma (2002), Raju Da as we call him with love. The task of introducing 2002 batch was outsourced to him and he did full judgment to it by saying it in Hindi but with Garhwali tone. "Bal pauri jaan".
People were then divided into four groups Cats, Dogs, Donkeys and Goats to give break to the intra-batch communication and to facilitate the communication between alumni from various batches. All the group members were supposed to sit together without saying a word. They were only allowed to make voice of the animal of their respective groups. And as we expected dogs were the winner. They got together very fast and made a high pitch howl together which could be heard from miles away for sure.
When the sun was at peak, the dew on the grass was evaporating in the air, cloud were playing hide and seek with us in the open lawn, pretty girls were fighting hard to save their complexion, and everybody was sweating in the lawn here came Mr. Prashant Rauthan (2007) like a breezing air with his magical kiss with the flute. He came with the first performance.
But more magic was yet to come as if Sachin Tendulkar is yet to come in the match, where Sehwag has already hit century and Gambhir was playing like rock solid. The magic reached to it's peak with the performances by Mr. Sumit Negi (2003), Mr. Rajendra Sharma (2002), Mr. Manish Bajpai (2000) came with solo and Amit Joshi (2004) and his wife Deepa Joshi (2006) with romantic duet. Even Mr. Manish Khare (1996) could not resist his excitement and came with a song in his great voice. We all were roaming in the golden days of GOONJs and CONVOs, where we had loads of fun. Today, it felt just an extension of real GBPECmagic which we were habitual of.
With the time, as aroma of food started filling in the air, it increased our appetite and of’ course our excitement. Here it started - Dumb Shall Art. Randomly people from every group were asked to come, select the movie name and perform. Every group was trying hard to guess the movie names. Sometime people failed (read - gave opportunity to other groups to get success) to guess but there were success stories too. But finally the group which got eureka moment was DOGs.
Food was the only destiny after that. Paneer, chicken, mutton and many other mouth-watering dishes were ready as if they were waiting to be appreciated by their eaters. And it happened. The end of lunch came with ras malai, and pastries.
Last but very important event was the quiz about our loving GBPEC. There were some easy questions like the direction in which Chandrabadni temple is from GBPEC, and the nearest railway station from GBPEC. Some tough questions like, a name of mess worker who can convert an iron into gold. As we all know that beauty is an integral part of brains. So to serve the same, there was a question that in which year Alaknanda girls hostel got its first set of female-GBPECians. A discussion is incomplete without the talk of faculty, so was here. Which faculty member resembles a famous hollywood actor Charlie Chaplin. People enjoyed the chocolates as an award for every question they answered.
Now, it was time to face the truth of the nature. Every good thing has to come to an end. Sad isn't, but true. But it also provides an opportunity to pass on the baton to the next generation, and to be better next time. People got a memento written with golden words "GBPEC-2010" and returned back with hearts filled with the memories of the great event and with the hope of coming back next time. I wish it will not take much time to meet again. Amen!!!!
To see the complete snaps of the events click here.
Readers, please do provide feedback and comments so that it can be bettered next time.

GBPEC 4.0
As per her statement, which I believe in too, GBPEC has generated three generations (G1:1995-1999, G2:2000-2004, G3:2005-2009) of engineers, who are playing vital role in building nation. And as a senior we must be (and we are) ready to welcome new generation next year. Welcome GBPEC 4.0!!!!
I hope the generation next will be equally good as their predecessors (here I am little rational to call all of us good). I believe they will have more enthusiasm than us to join the GBPEC Alumni family. Not only this, they will play bigger role in taking GBPEC Alumni activities from current level (organizing alumni meets) to next level, where we will be more involved in the social activities/reforms/entrepreneurship etc and really create a brand name called GBPEC.
Amen.

Page Rank Check
This was real heart-breaker when I saw:
1. Page rank for http://blog.gbpec.in/ was 0.
2. But quite shockingly the page rank for http://www.gbpec.net/ was 5/10. Believe me this is very good page rank. And this is better than http://www.kecua.in/ which has page rank of 4/10. But as I expected IIT kanpur homepage has far better page rank i.e. 9/10.

SPECTRUM '09 conducted by CSE final year on 13th september 2009
First of all, happy diwali to all and sorry for such a late update.
A technical event named SPECTRUM '09 was conducted on 13th September 2009 by CSE final year under the banner of CSI student branch in GBPEC. The event was basically CS based but open to all.
We had several programs in the event. Few of them are :-
1) JSP Workshop : A workshop on JSP was taken by Bharat Arora (CSE Final year).
2) Programmming Contest : As you all know, it is a test of the person's programming skills.
3) Be a Whizkid : This was a technical quiz (of course CSE based) conducted in 2 rounds. Pre-round was written quiz and final was a quiz on stage.
4) Aptitude test : You know what it is.
5) 2 fast 2 furious : LAN gaming (NFS Most Wanted). Final round was conducted on stage in the auditorium and shown on the screen by projector.
6) Software contest.
7) Website designing.
8) PPT presentation.
9) Word mania : Chandan Adhikari of CSE final year explained some typical english words to the students. He made the program interactive by jumbling the words and asking the students. We also provided the students with the printed leaflets of the words explained.
10) Techos School : I disassembled my own Sweetheart (laptop) which is a DELL inspiron 1525 onstage and showed it live on projector. The video was also recorded. You can see it on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7ed-7TJzD0 or below this text on this page only.
We tried to set new standard of technical events in the college and hope we succeeded a bit in it. The few things to be mentioned are :-
1) Disassembling a laptop on stage first time.
2) Introduction of buzzer system in onstage quiz.
3) LAN gaming conducted for the first time.
4) Medals were given to the first prize winners.
We finally thank Thakkar sir and S.K.Verma sir for their support for the event.
Here is the video of Techos' School.

Freshers' night on 17th Sep, 2009

Say it my good luck or the God's wish, I made a plan to go and visit GBPEC on 16th Sep,2009 with my friend and Vice President of my earlier company, Pankaj. Both of us reached college after having a tour of Khirsu, Kandoliya and Kyunkaaleshwar. We had plans to go to deoprayag the very next day morning. In the college, Sanjiv Naithani sir had made arrangements for the Guest house for us. On 16th evening, I met Ashish Negi sir & H K Goyal sir. Negi sir told me that there is a Vishwakarma pooja & fresher night scheduled on 17th Sep. He requested me (or you can say, ordered me) to stay for 1 more day and enjoy the evening. We discussed and decided to stay as for me it was an opportunity to meet new juniors. On 17th morning, we saw the Chaukhambha and other hills topped with snow. It was a beautiful view. I went towards workshop and met some students and staff persons there who after performoing the Vishwakarma pooja, were having the sweets. They gave sweets to me also. It was lovely to feel the taste of sweets with the cool breeze of college. I met Akash Dhar (from Jammu) of second year and talked with him for some time.

The program started and a lot of cultural events were done by new students. So much talent was there that we can't judge anybody by giving them any numbers. Some students sang songs very well and some showed their talents in the dance.

I felt like getting my stage back and after telling a bit about myself sang a song, " Guncha koi", students cheered me and asked for "once more". Then I sang a garhwali song, "Tu dikhyaandi" and then I was like a star. I was very happy to see that how those new students all unknown to me were cheering me up. It was an amazing night. After that, we came back to Guest house and had dinner with Ankit Khanduri of second year (My batchmate J P Sati's nephew).

Time's Mystique
I thought college 4 years were short lived but these 5 years after college appeared even shorter. May be, it's our national hobby or human psychology where one always feels the same because I never heard of anybody saying that his/her last 4-5 years appeared longer than the previous years. Does the speed of time varies as we grow, its silly question but my answer is yes, speed of time changes as we grow. When I was little, a 15 minutes long DD news would work as anesthetic to me and my siblings at home, a 2-3 hours long movie would look like a whole day, a whole day cricket match would appear as it was played for a whole week, 4-5 hours daily at school would be a nightmare like a monster who had captured all children for centuries. I just resisted being in my childhood and always wished to reach in teenage or above. I believe, we all did want to fly at several moments in our childhood and desired to look beyond the every visible horizon. Anyway, I grew older with some national compliments like hey! look at you, you were seen just the other month back when you were so tiny and now you have become so tall, OMG. I only knew it was like a year to pass a month.
Anyhow, as I entered in teenage I noticed a drift in speed of time, it felt like time started shrinking as the happy new year started arriving earlier, new class, new class teacher, new roll number- all would change so frequently. I never had a chance to interrupt this cycle as I kept on clearing all the grades one by one every year. I ignored the change and continued laughing and clapping on happy birthdays, new years, in classes, at cricket matches, at school functions. But, at the same time I also craved to leave my teenage asap and all I wanted to be just out of school, it was like living in a prison. I could feel the invisible feathers inside me at some points which would assure me to propel in open sky if allowed to perform my own experiments. So, finally after 12-14 years of rigorous imprisonment I was awarded the first freedom, by then I was almost ready to fly just out of the school gate. I completed XII grade. Due to some unknown reasons I forgot of flying as I get bailed out from the prison- my school, the idea of flying by self was vanished immediately and I started preparing for engineering where at least I'ld have had an option to make a machine which would fly me. Still, I remember my feet wasn't on the ground and seldom I felt walking on the earth neither I bothered it because I used to visualize universe most of the time.
I got admission in GBPEC at the late years of my teenage, I felt the spark within me as there were lot of other guys who were also freshly released from their respective prisons(schools) and were all set to fly. First year at GBPEC, year 2000 was finished in record time, we didn't even have the time to shake our heads up and see on around, courtesy our senior batches. Year 2001, we were upgraded to 2nd year as new high fliers occupied our place. There it seemed like whoaa.. we are about to reach the top from where we'll take our first dive and we'll embrace the sky. Unfortunately, dreams also started shrinking along with the time and some black dots kind of things started crippling in. So, carrying some black dots on our back we were forced to stay on the ground. First time, we felt being on the ground but had enough power from inside to take off again, all credit goes to some classmates who earned black dots in dozens and the offering was being shared by entire batch. Another new year arrived at a bit slower speed than the first year and we happily stepped in 3rd year. Gravity had already impacted us in a subtle way due to which we got busy down the GBPEC lane searching for new projects, class assignments, internet surfing etc. We reached to the end of 3rd year somehow all were confused a bit about final year as it was our last yearly break after which we were to get out. All flying things were fled by this time leaving us on the ground, and we became most senior- the final year students of 2004. At the start of year 2004, few months before our term completion I was set to witness the end of our 4 year journey which no one never realized how 4 years were gone in a zippy. Sometimes unclear future picture would try to let us down in our dreams but the campus vibes gave us strength and it prevented us from letting down. June, 2004 - It felt like an emergency landing as our good time exhausted and we were leaving the campus forever. All were released and we had our final freedom. A close contrast I'ld like to mention here about some guys who always looked so hard, wept like anything at the time of departure. This was pretty surprising and indeed they were no less than any newly wed Indian bride who weeps profusely while leaving parents home forever after her marriage. Even today, my heart skips a beat whenever I recall that teary inevitable moment. Ultimately all high fliers had the final landing, we all were prepared to move on along the ground from here. All flying objects on my mind were erased successfully. I realized only birds can fly, I cannot.
That time on, its been a roller-coaster ride and nobody knows where I'm headed. But the question about change in speed of time is still intact and as per my observation- The happy new year comes much earlier than it would come in childhood. And, the time period for happy new year is shrinking every year.
You see, I finished my first quarter of life in just a single page, do I really need to explain more that time is running out at much faster rate than before! Lets move on again and see how much time it takes to complete next five years.
to be continued..

New GBPEC Alumni site launched
Some highlights of the website is email-service which is in gbpec.in domain email@gbpec.in. You might want to sign-up for that. We are in process of putting the database of all the batches. "Connect" is the link which you can access for the same. It will take sometime to complete the full data. Please let us know if you do not see your data in the website. Then there are another interesting "showcase" and "podcast" sections.
I witnessed many organizations, groups, community which started well but went off after some time. Those were sad memories, but we learn a lot from those experiences. One major reason of the failures I found was lack of participation, enthusiasm, dedication after some time. I do not know why dedication start to diminish once we achieve primary goals. Goals are never achieved. They are not the destinations but journey. If we achieve one goal it's our responsibility to create another, better and higher than the last one.
We can assure you one thing from our side that we are going to put lot of hard work to achieve this dream, but we need more volunteers from a pool of talent who can put 1-2 hours on weekly basis. Believe me, it's going to be huge amount of work. We all are busy in our professional, personal life. But don't we owe anything to our social life. Yes, we do. So, leave the mob and come forward to get recognized. We all spent several hours in orkutting and many other sites. Just reduce 1-2 hours from that life and spend in this.
Finally, it is you people who is going to make this project successful. So, please don't be shy and let us know the features, contents you want to see in this site. Afterall, you are the customers and we all know that "Customer is King". So, to achieve customer satisfaction we want us to know what you think of this website, what you want to see in future.
Cheers to GBPEC community!!!!

GBPEC’s Position
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Outlook/Cfore has conducted the survey for engineering colleges, and medical college which offered undergraduate program. They provide the list of top 100 engineering colleges in India. See http://www.outlookindia.com/full.asp?fodname=20060717&fname=Cover+Story&sid=5 for more details. As expected, results are ruled by IITs, NITs. They identified the five factors intellectual capital, infrastructure and facilities, pedagogic systems and processes, industry interface and placements for the survey for the first phase. In the second phase a semi-structured questionnaire was designed and given to senior faculty members in various institutes who had more than ten years of teaching experience in different states. The respondents were asked to give weightages to different parameters and evaluate the institutes that they were aware of on a ten-point scale. For more details on process you can goto http://www.outlookindia.com/full.asp?fodname=20060717&fname=Cover+Stor

I was not expecting our college name in that list but heart was bounding me to search for the GBPEC in that list. Not surprisingly I didn't find it's name there.
These are the institutes which really produce talent which can compete in real world with the talent around the world. It gives me immense pleasure to see the talent pool we provide to the world. At the same time being a GBPECian I was sad when I couldn't find it's name in the list especially when 40 private colleges got there place in that list. I am discussing this because it would have been given a sense of proud if I could find the name "GBPEC" in that list. And I hope it is true for all.
Now the question is where we are lacking. If we will see the parameters for the first phase, we will realize that we are lacking at 4 parameters out of 5. But, why it is so? The answer is being a government institution it has state-of-art infrastructure. But when it comes to faculty/intellectual capital it is no where. Moreover industry interface, placements are not up to the mark.
As, we are trying to represent GBPEC Alumni here, not the college itself. I cann't talk about faculty/intellectual capital what GBPEC have. But my concern is where we are lacking. We are lacking in establishing a better communication channel with the college. But, why? Now here we need talent, passion, dedication to establish a better and transparent communication channel with college.
This is all from my side. I hope very soon we all see the GBPEC in that list.

Really Shocking
I am not in a position to comment anything as I do not know the background, but doing this in most of the circumstances is condemnable. At this moment of deep sorrow let's pray for Avichal's family. Even we cannot do much from the distance we are living from them. But at least we can wish that they move on from this situation.
May his soul rest in peace.

Long waiting comes to an end.....finally
Anyways, we all should appreciate the efforts from the team. Now it's our chance to take it to next level and really make it an Alumni site. It should be one stop shop for contacting respected seniors and loving juniors and of' course our non-forgettable batchmates. Till now we all heard of IIT/IIM brands, now let's make GBPEC brand. I know it is a distant dream but all the dreams has one beginning point and all those points are small.
Let's make this site a platform for contacting the GBPEC alumni, which will help us in creating new ventures, finding people within GBPEC family for start-ups by GBPECians. And of' course finding jobs, making contacts and so on so forth. Let's spread the word and make it a revolution.
